Hello Friends,

I am very happy to announce that we have completed 2 Successful years of “Hacking Truths” and this would not have been possible without your Love and Support. In this year from 1st Sept 2008 to 31st Aug 2009 Hungry Hacker has seen lots of Ups and Downs and it has managed to come out of all the problems with increased Confidence. Hungry Hacker has tried its best to provide most updated and most effective information to all its users. To Celebrate this Occasion we have decided to make this Anniversary very special by making you a part of this Celebration and giving away lots and lots of Prizes. This month of September is going to be Celebrated as Anniversary Month and we will be distributing Daily Prizes to the Subscribers of our Blog so don’t missout on this oportunity.

Is this the Real B’date of hungry-hackers.com?

Well, Some of you might come to know from the DNS records of hungry-hackers.com that the actual date of registration of this domain is somewhere in February then why are we celebrating the anniversary on 1st of September?

The answer to this is quite Simple. Hacking Truths was originally born with blogspot subdomain on 1st september 2007 and finally after it got popular we transfered from blogspot to .com domain. So going by the actual registration date in Blogspot we celebrate the 2nd anniversary of Hacking Truths.

How did Hungry Hacker grow to such a big blog?

The growth of Hacking Truths started from the Day we got a Comment on a Article in the days when we were hosted under blogspot. That Comment changed the life of Hacking Truths. The Comment is as follows:

As you can see this comment does seem like a spam at first and my first reaction to this comment was not to go for it. But I thought of just replying to the e-mail address given in the comment to get some more information.

Finally after having a lot of discussion with Lakshman, the owner of HyperWebEnable.com, I decided to try this program and I found that whatever this comment says it actually what they provide.

The biggest spike in the life of Hacking Truths came when one of articles “Gmail Account Hacking Tool” got to the front page of popular websites like Digg, Slashdot and Stumbleupon. I still remember that day 20th Aug, 2008. Hacking Truths had got its all time high traffic of 32460 page views in one day which still remains to be unbeaten. After that time Hacking Truths have never looked back and kept on going with a super fast speed.

Few words about My Sponsor?

Hello Hungry Hackers. My name is Zell Faze, and I have been recently taken on as a writer for Hungry Hackers. Before I write any articles about hacking, I want to take a few minutes of your day to tell you a bit about myself. I think you always ought to know a bit about your mentor.

As stated previously my name is Zell Faze. I am a male living in the United States. My time zone is EST ( GMT -5 ). I am fairly active in the Hungry Hackers forums, and I highly encourage their use. It really is a great tool for communicating with myself, Amol, and Ashik.

I am currently a student, but that does not mean that I know more, or I know less than an expert. I consider myself an expert in my field. There is though, always more to learn.

On Hungry Hackers I will no longer be a student, but instead take on the role of mentor. I say mentor for a reason, it is my opinion that I shouldn’t teach you hacking, but rather guide you in the right direction and let you learn on your own what works and doesn’t.

With that in mind many of the articles I will be writing are purely conceptual in nature. For those that like practical things, Ashik has asked me to make sure I include something practical in every article. I will try my best to abide by Ashik’s instructions.

One thing you should know about commenting on my articles, and talking to me on the forums, is that I may often seem like a jerk. This is because I do have some rules that I will require you to follow if you talk to me.

Do NoT SpEaK lIkE tHiS

Do not use 1337

Use proper grammar and spelling when possible. ( I understand a misspelled word or two but don’t make it horrid )

Don’t use plz and thx. Write the whole word out.

Be kind and respectful.

Be curious and ask lots of good questions.

Don’t be a waste of time.

Please note that these rules are not official on the forums. Official forum rules may be found here.

These rules are not really for my sake as much as your own. I try to create a professional environment where we can speak and exchange information freely. Not following these rules makes you hard to understand, which makes it hard on me to answer your question. It also makes it harder for others to find your question and my answer.

There is a brief reminder of my rules within my Forum Sig.

In hacking there are several philosphies by which I live. Many will be outlined in my next article, but there is one that I feel I must share now.

“You don’t learn to hack, you hack to learn.”

This philosophy will often be the basis on which I decide whether or not to answer a question.

What’s common between the Lochness monster, Yeti and radiation from PC monitor causing cancer? Well, they all are myths!

One of the long timer in the list of tech related myths is switching off power without shutting down damages the PC. Also, many believe that as their email account is password-proof it can never be hacked. Well, with no grounding there are many such myths that haunt the tech world.

Here we bring you some of the most common myths that most people think are true.

(1) No magnets near my PC

This would have been true in the case of a floppy, but a hard drive and laptops are immune to magnetic radiation because they are free from magnetic composition. And neither are thumbdrives, memory cards and CDs, so don’t get hyper and go crazy with those fridge magnets. Most of the storage devices, like an SD and CompactFlash memory cards, are immune to magnetic fields.

(2) Radiation from PC monitor will cause cancer

No! It won’t. Radiation from your cell phone might give you a brain tumor, but a monitor is harmless.

The radiation from your monitor is too weak and also at a different frequency, so rest assure you are totally safe. In fact, according to many studies the amount of ultraviolet radiation produced by a computer monitor is a small fraction of that produced by florescent lighting

(3) Cookies from sites track every move

Cookies do track your activities on a website. But they are simple things which will make sure your next visit to the site is simple and hassle free. Cookies are basically small text files that help the browser remember specific information like your id and password, preferences, shopping cart information etc. Plus they are usually deleted when you shut down your browser.

To delete cookies in IE, go to Tools, click Internet Options, click the Privacy tab, and click Advanced to override automatic cookie handling.

(4) Always ‘stop’ a USB device before unplugging

This applies only in a few cases. This is said to ensure that the USB device is not unplugged while data is being read from or written to it. Doing so would corrupt the file being transferred or maybe damage the USB drive. However, when the USB is in the idle mode it can be unplugged without going through the entire process of ‘Safely Remove hardware’.

For devices like keyboard, mouse, printers, scanners, you can just unplug them when not in use.

(5) Switching off power without shutting down damages the PC

Many believe that turning power off without shutting down PC physically damages their hard drives. However, this is an age-old myth and has no grounding. But, users will lose their data if they were working and did not save before switching off the power. Also, many users believe that one should shut down PC every couple of hour so it can rest. This may be fine, but shutting down your PC every few hours may actually be harmful to your PC.

Components in the PC are most stressed when they have to either boot or shut down. Doing that every few hours will keep it under constant stress. However, this doesn’t mean you must keep your computer on forever. Operating systems do need a shut down once in a while, because even the best OS’ crash if not given a rest.

(6) Emptying recycle bin ensures permanent deletion

Well many may relax when they delete their trash files.

However, this is no reason to cheer. In fact, Windows just marks the area of the disk occupied by such files as empty, but does not delete the data. There are many file recovery software available such as TOKIWA DataRecovery that enables you to undelete files, even if they have been removed from the recycle bin. Such programmes can track the deleted files in the hard disk.

Recovery of the deleted files is possible as long as the disk area is not overwritten by any new disk.

(7) If you have antivirus you can click anything

Though an anti-virus is a must-must, but one cannot just relax especially in a 24X7 connected world.

No single antivirus programme can completely safeguard you against virus, trojan, malware and spyware attack. There may be chances that the anti-virus programme loaded in your PC may not be effective against spyware or other kinds of malware not classified as viruses. Also, in case of a bigger attack, the security vendor may take long time to issue a security update.

Hence, users should make sure that their PCs are loaded with anti-spyware programme. Also, keep regularly updating your anti-virus software.
