According the Facebook statistics there are more than 750 Million Active facebook users. This makes is a very important target for all the hackers. I have no doubts that the developers at facebook are working 24×7 to make it as secure as possible but the hackers are also working 24×7 to find out a loophole using which they could take control of your account. But for our safety we also need to work a little harder. According to me, the best possible way to do this is by learning how to hack facebook yourself. If you know the loopholes you will never fall for it.

We all love torrents because they are free. In the last few weeks I have been downloading a lot of movies/softwares from torrents. While messing with the torrents I found a few things which turned out to be very fruitful. Today I will show you how to use those tricks to get maximum performance from your P2P Softwares.

Note: I use uTorrent so all the following Hacks have been tested on the latest version of uTorrent only. You may test it on other P2P softwares and let us know about your experience

1. Increase Download Speed

Do the following changes in the preference of uTorrent.

Go to Options>Preferences>Network

2. Block Fake Peers

Anti-P2P organizations are actively polluting P2P networks with fake peers, which send out fake or corrupt data in order to waste bandwidth and slow down file transfers. At its worst, when downloading major copyrighted torrents, as much as a fourth of the peers you are connected to can be attributed to various Anti-P2P agencies. There is also a much more serious side to this. Once you’ve established a connection to one of these fake “peers”, your IP has been logged and will most likely be sent to the RIAA/MPAA.

But there is a way to fight back! If you are using the latest uTorrent, you can employ a little known feature called IP filtering. The author of uTorrent has gone out of his way to hide it, but it’s there nonetheless. But before we can activate this filter, we need to retrieve a list of currently known Anti-P2P organization IPs.

This is most easily done by downloading the latest blacklist from Bluetack (the same people who wrote SafePeer for the Azureus BT client).

This list is updated daily, and contains all known Anti-P2P organizations, trackers and peers, aswell as all known Goverment/Military IP addresses as collected by the Bluetack team. Once downloaded, extract and rename the file to “ipfilter.dat” in preparation for the final step.

To make the list available to uTorrent, you need to put it in %AppData%\uTorrent\. So type this into the Address Bar, or click Start -> Run and type it there. After placing the ipfilter.dat in this folder, start uTorrent and go into preferences (Ctrl+P), then click on “Advanced”. In the right hand pane, make sure that “ipfilter.enable” is set to true, and then close the dialog. That’s it for the configuration.

You can verify that the list has been loaded by looking under the “Logging” tab of uTorrent, where you should see the line “Loaded ipfilter.dat (X entries)”.

Your IP address is your online identity and could be used by hackers to break into your computer, steal personal information, or commit other crimes against you. Hide My IP allows you to surf anonymously, change your IP address, prevent identity theft, and guard against hacker intrusions. This software can not only be used in case of hiding your IP from other peers but also useful if you want to browse internet anonymously.

These Facebook viruses appear on your wall in forms of a bizarre or eye-catching stories and videos and once the user has clicked/liked the link, it is already late. The next step will be getting rid of your Facebook virus which is a time-consuming  process.  Its better to avoid spam messages and trojan viruses in the first place.

How to avoid it?

1. Think before you Act. Viruses on Facebook are sneaky. The hackers and cybercriminals who want your information know that Facebook users will often click on an interesting post without a moment’s thought. If a post sounds a bit over-the-top like a headline out of a tabloid, this is your first warning sign.

2. Try to avoid Links and videos with Catchy words like  “funniest ever,” “most hilarious video on Facebook,” or “you’ve got to see this.” Do some keyword research to see if the post in question comes up in a search engine with information about a current virus or trojan.

3. Check the poster of the Suspicious content. If you receive a message from someone you do not know, this is an obvious red flag. Facebook video viruses also tend to pop up in your news feed or on your wall from friends you haven’t talked to in a while. Unfortunately, it’s likely this friend has already fallen victim to the latest virus on Facebook. After clicking on the story themselves, the message was sent out to all of their friends as well.

4 Avoid messages that have been posted by multiple users as the virus spreads among your friends who were not so cautious. If a link with title such as “Sexiest video ever” shows up all over your feed from all kinds of people (perhaps friends you would not expect to make such a post), this is another warning sign. Similar direct messages are a likely variant of the notorious Facebook Koobface virus which has used this approach in the past.

5. Do not fall for the “typical” money-transfer schemes. Chat messages from friends needing funds will usually sound suspicious. Everything can’t be screened before posting, so money transfer scams and hoax applications still find their way on to Facebook. You should also avoid applications that claim to do a full “Error check” or fix security problems related to your profile.

6. Update your anti-virus software frequently. If you do accidentally click on a post before realizing it is a hoax, do not click on any further links or downloads. If it’s too late and you have already been infected, the Facebook virus removal process may be effortless if you have a good anti-virus program to catch the virus, trojan or other malware early on.

What’s Next?

These were few important tips to safeguard your facebook account but your job isn’t done yet. Once you have detected that the link/post on your facebook wall is Malicious you should Mark it as SPAM so that the facebook support will stop it from spreading further and infecting other users.

Reasons for writing this post:

• I feel I have not done enough to become a good computer engineer. May be I did not have someone who could guide me properly. We were only the second batch of Computer Engineering at Nirma Institute of Technology, Ahmedabad, so we had no mentors in the industry.
• Second reason, may be we were not mature enough.
• Third reason, 3 Idiots was not released at that time.
• So this post is dedicated to all the fellow computer engineering students (especially in India) who are still having a good time by bunking the classes but not doing good enough to become a world class computer engineer otherwise.

But what can I do?

1. Have the right infrastructure

• Get yourself a decent laptop. (I prefer Mac but any decent Dell laptop is also ok)
• Get yourself a nice internet connection with highest speed available. (Take a cut from your pocket money if you have to but this is a must)
• Get yourself an iPhone (I know it is expensive in India but you will have to use world class gadgets to become world class engineer)
• Make your home or hostel room WiFi enabled. (This is not expensive. You will get a decent router in 2-3k.)
• If you are not able to do any or all of the above things, don’t worry you can still become a good computer engineer. So hang on and keep reading.

2. Learn to use Google Reader

• Google reader will become the best companion of yours for lifetime if you use it properly.
• It is nothing but a cool RSS reader from Google using which you can subscribe to blogs to get latest updates and posts. So if you have a gmail account you are ready to go. What? You do not have a gmail account yet!! Go get one right now. Stop reading. Open a gmail account now and come back. I am waiting.
• I am still waiting.
• Ok great, so you have a gmail account now, good. Watch this video . It explains in plain english how to use google reader.
• Software, Web Search Strategies, Wikis, Social Bookmarking, Social Networking, Blogs, Podcasting and Cloud computing on http://www.commoncraft.com/ (Now you understand why I told you get the fastest internet connection available?). You don’t have to see them all at once but do check them all and understand.
• Done? Ok so you are ready to become a world class computer engineer now.

3. Academic Earth

• Do you want to see how professors teach in Harvard and Stanford? Do you want to see how their lectures are conducted? You can now, we were not able to do that in our time.
• Go to www.academicearth.org and you will see videos of actual lectures and courses of Harvard, Yale, Stanford. Now you know whose lectures to watch after bunking the classes or after getting back to home.
• You do not want to miss the chance of studying in these universities without going to US to giving them millions in fees right? and guess what? Attendance is not compulsory here

4. Learn any web language quickly and start building

• I would suggest PHP or Ruby. ASP.NET C# is also fine if you already know something about it.
• And start building something on it. It can be anything. But start programming on web now. Most of you are never going to write a program C, C++ or COBOL in your lifetime. I would not advise against learning them though.
• After you know something about web programming, read “Getting Real” from 37Signals.
• Now again build something using whatever you learned from the above book.

5. Assume you are in Sillicon Valley

• I know this sounds little weird but that’s the way it is.
• The best of the minds in the world are there and you do not want to miss out on that right?
• Thousands of things happen everyday in Sillicon Valley and you can remain updated by reading above blogs I mentioned.
• So start feeling the air

6. Start asking why?

• When you are attending a lecture or reading anything, have a habit of asking why?
• For e.g. Why we have to study “Strength of Materials” when most of us are going to write web applications in PHP or ASP.NET?
• When you ask why often, you start understanding the logic, the reason behind doing anything.
• Same as they have said in 3 Idiots, don’t learn to get marks but learn to know something, to achieve the excellence. When you start asking why, you start on the right path.

7. Understand computer hardware

• Most people thinks this is boring and unnecessary.
• May be it is, but it will certainly make you better programmer, even if you will never touch the inside of the computer again.
• Basic understanding of hardware is necessary to understand how computer works.
• You have to understand following 100% without any doubt in your mind.
  • How your high level programming code becomes 0s and 1s and execute?
  • The text which you are reading now is also consisting of 0s and 1s only then how come you are reading the alphabets here?
  • FYI I am still not 100% clear on this. But I will be one day. Till then I am not a good computer engineer.

I guess I have get you started here.

By following any or all of the above steps you are destined to become world class computer engineer. By no means I am asking you to stop whatever you are doing right now in your college.

These are additional things you have to do. It takes hard work to become world class right?

You are always on your own to achieve the path of excellence. Friends and Tutors can only guide you, they can not make you one.

I would request my fellow classmates to add points in this post. I believe our batch 99CE in Nirma Institue of Technology had one of the best and brightest minds in the world. Do you have any doubt? Well this guy is one of them. 99CE people are in MIT, Google, Apple, Barclays, Bank of America to name a few. They are spread across the world and are on their way to become future leaders.

1. Save Session For All Tabs Opened In Multiple Firefox Windows

If you are an ardent user of Firefox then you may be aware that when more than one firefox windows are opened up, in that case when you close a firefox window, it does ask me the option to save the session and exit, rather it ask to close all the tabs in that firefox window, but it wont save the tabs in other windows. So this way you could not save the session for multiple tabs opened in multiple firefox windows.

In such a case, there is only one option left to save the session for all the tabs opened in separate firefox windows by terminating firefox through task manager, here is how you do it.

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to quickly launch task manager, click the process tab and locate firefox.exe and right click selecting the exe and click End Process Tree.

Next time when you will open firefox it will open all the tabs in all the windows that were previously open.

2. Open & Log In to Multiple Accounts Gmail, Facebook, or Twitter Accounts In FireFox

Firefox extension CookiePie manages Firefox’s cookies—small bits of text stored on your computer that tell a site you’re logged in, for example—in such a way that you can log into the same site multiple times.

How to use it?

Just follow the steps given below:

• Install CookiePie Firefox Extension.
• Create a new tab or use an existing one.
• Open the context menu of the tab (i.e: Press the right mouse button over the tab) and select “Toggle On/Off CookiePie”.
• A cookiepie icon will appear over the tab.
• Go to a site (e.g.: http://www.gmail.com) and login into your account.
• Create another tab.
• Enable CookiePie on that tab too.
• Log in with another account on the same site.

3. Bypass Download Waiting Time On Rapidshare, Megaupload, zShare, Mediafire etc

SkipScreen is a really useful firefox  addon for lot of users who download  various types of files from the popular file and media sharing sites like Rapidshare, Megaupload, zShare, Mediafire, and more.

Most of these file sharing web sites have a annoying waiting time limit before a free user can start downloading the requested file. So, SkipScreen can be really useful in saving your time wasted seeing the download waiting time as it removes the screen of download waiting time from these media sharing sites.

SkipScreen monitors the pages where you see the download time and will get the content you want before the download waiting time completes.

1. Power-cycling the iPhone:  A good place to start out is by power-cycling the iPhone. You can do this by holding down the power button on the top of the iPhone until you see the “Slide to Power Off” screen. Once the iPhone is off, go ahead and push the power button again to turn it on. Use the iPhone as you normally would and see how the battery life is lasting.
2. Drain the battery fully: Go to Settings -> General -> Auto-Lock and set it to Never. This is to wear the battery down. After the battery discharged and it was shut down for a few minutes push the home button to ‘revive’ it. Once the battery sits a moment it can pull some reserve power. Do this repeatedly until the screen displayed an empty battery image and it wouldn’t stay on for more than a second. Now charge it completely. Now your battery is as good as new.
3. Avoiding the Extremes: If you want to enhance your iPhone battery lifespan remember to avoid temperature extremes. Avoid using your iPhone at temperatures higher than 95° F (or 35° C) and in very cold environments. Using the iPhone in very hot conditions can inflict permanent battery damage whereas cold temp usage causes temporary battery performance degradation.
4. Regular Updates: Keep your iPhone software constantly updated to ensure your phone has the latest battery performance maximisation technology.
5. Optimise the Settings: Some apps are battery draining like viewing videos, gaming, email and so on. Just remember the following battery tips to maximise its life.
   • Minimize use of Location Services by using it only when needed or disabling the location services option.
   • Set your Fetch New Data options to hourly or fetch data manually. Frequent use of mail client only drains the battery faster.
   • Disable your Push Mail client when not needed to avoid receiving mail as they arrive.
6. Limit Third-party Application Usage: 3 rd party apps like games prevent auto power saving options like screen dimming or switching off hence the battery is constantly at peak performance.
7. Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G: When not in use switch off these apps to conserve battery. Also note using Wi-Fi to access the net instead of the cellular network service requires less power.
8. Use your iPhone regularly: It may sound weird but its true that not using the iPhone for long time at a stretch decreases the battery life. Use it regularly and charge the battery at least once every six months even if you don’t use your iPhone regularly.
9. Turn off keyboard clicks: If you frequently use your iPhone’s keyboard, navigate to the Sounds pane of Settings  and turn the option for Keyboard clicks off.
10. Connect iPhone directly to computer to charge: If you are connecting your iPhone to a computer instead of a wall socket to charge it, don’t connect iPhone to your keyboard or another USB hub/bridge. Make sure it is plugged directly into one of your computer’s USB 2.0 ports.
11. Turn off 3G: If you’re really low on battery, and are willing to do whatever it takes to keep the phone alive for emergency situations, then go and turn off 3G. Hey, EDGE sucks, but it still works.
12. Turn off EQ: Applying EQ settings to your iPhone apparently drains extra battery. If you’re planning on keeping your phone alive all day, turn the EQ settings off.
13. Turn Off Vibrate in Games: A lot of games have very frequent vibrations, which drain battery life. If you can, turn them off in the game’s settings.
14. Don’t download from iTunes or App Store wirelessly: Downloading apps and media is hard on the battery. Just wait until you get home and use your computer.
15. Turn SSH Off: SSH runs is background and drains battery, this can be turned off from the application BossPrefs OR from default SSH service icon. This runs in the background to detect any network activity and this is the main cause of poor battery time for all jailbreak iPhones.
16. Turn off Auto-Brightness: Auto brightness changes the iPhone’s screen brightness on the basis of surrounding light which consumes battery through auto brightness process and changing from low brightness to high brightness level. Turing off this process will stop a back end process and constant brightness level will not consume more battery due to change in brightness level.
17. Lower the Brightness: More screen brightness requires more battery. A reasonable brightness level is between, 25% to 30% which will brighten up the iPhone screen display good for both day and night.
18. Use your discretion: You understand what’s bad for battery life – doing things that look like they would take a lot of battery life. Just be reasonable. Plan ahead. When you know you won’t charge your phone for hours, don’t go playing games. Resist. Don’t pass your phone around to your friends who say “Oohhh iPhone lemme play.” Don’t take the smart out of smart phone.
